Geoff has written to the Transport Secretary – Ruth Kelly arguing that in the light of the increasing pressure on the County and its rail services she should be bringing forward serious plans to enhance the capacity both from Cambridge to London – but equally important the cross country links to Peterborough, Birmingham, Sheffield and Liverpool. this would have a number of benefits – notleast it would cut the number of very long car journeys, stop the overcrowding on the Norwich to Liverpool route which often only has two carriage trains and are not particularly fast. It is appalling that in the latest franchise arrangement – very little is said about developing this route.
